Westray Collection
Westray Collection | Transcript Index | List of Witnesses | Inquiry Resource Library
The StFX Westray Collection was donated to the Angus L. Macdonald Library by Justice K. Peter Richard, Commissioner, Westray Mine Public Inquiry, in January of 1998.
The collection consists of:
- A complete set, including index (paper and electronic format), of Westray Mine Public Inquiry Hearing Transcripts totalling 77 days. Each transcript is labelled by volume corresponding to the day of testimony (ie. Volume 1 is Day 1 - November 16, 1995)
- Justice Richard's resource library containing various texts and reference materials acquired by the Commissioner and Commission staff in preparation for the inquiry's hearings and report writing.
- A complete set of inquiry exhibits introduced during the hearings from November 1995 to July 1996.
How to access the collection
Access to the Westray Collection is by appointment only. Please contact the StFX University Archives at 867-2201 or 867-2010 or email archives@stfx.ca to view the collection.

Westray Mine Public Inquiry Hearing Transcripts
The transcripts of the Westray Mine Public Inquiry contain the full verbatim dialog of all witnesses and examiners.
The transcipts are available for viewing on this site using the Adobe Acrobat Reader (download: Adobe Acrobat Reader).
Transcripts of the 77 days of the inquiry are indexed chronologically and include information on the witnesses and examiner(s) for each day. The page number is linked to the full transcript.

StFX Westray Collection - Inquiry Resource Library
The StFX Inquiry Resource Library contains material collected by Justice K. Peter Richard during his tenure as Commissioner of the Westray Mine Public Inquiry. The material consists of books, reports, articles, manuals, regulations, etc.
From this site, a detailed list of the contents of the library can be viewed using one of the methods below.
Please Note:
Justice Richard's resource library is unique to the StFX Westray Collection. The public master copy of the Westray Mine Public Inquiry papers will eventually be housed at the Public Archives of Nova Scotia, Halifax, NS.
