Who can borrow through Document Delivery?

Document Delivery is available to StFX students, faculty, staff, and registered off-campus borrowers.

How do I request materials through Document Delivery?

Check our holdings in the Library Catalogue and the Resolver to make sure that StFX does not hold the item in either the Angus L. Macdonald (Main) Library, or the Marie Michael (Coady) Library.

If you have questions regarding previously submitted requests, you can access this information by using the Document Delivery Request Form or by contacting the Document Delivery staff by phone 902-867-2421 or by email docdel@stfx.ca.

If requested material is no longer required, it is the borrower's responsibility to cancel the request as soon as possible.

How much does it cost?

Charges for document deliveries vary. The Library covers the costs for StFX students, faculty and staff if the material can be borrowed within Canada.

Off Campus Borrowers will be charged $10 per request for items outside of the Novanet member libraries.

For international orders payment must be made when the requested item is received.

How long will it take for my material to arrive?

The amount of time it takes for an item to arrive depends on a number of factors, e.g., accuracy of the bibliographical information supplied on the request form, the response of the lending library, and the method of delivery (e.g., regular mail, courier)

Some average times include:

How will I know when my requested material has arrived?

Email is the primary method used to contact the borrower when requested material has arrived.

Where do I pick up my requested material?

ALL requested books and microform can be picked up at the Circulation Desk. Most articles and photocopied chapters are delivered as a link to a PDF file in an email message.

How long can I keep materials?

Most material may be borrowed for 3 weeks with no renewal. If you wish to request an extension, please notify Document Delivery staff at least 3 days before the due date.

Where do I return materials?

It is the responsibility of the borrower to return the borrowed material directly to the Circulation Desk by its due date. Fines will be levied for materials returned after the due date. Occasionally the lending institution will recall material before the assigned due date. In this case, the borrower will be notified and must return the material; otherwise fines will be incurred.
